Endowment

Since 2009, when the FSMB completely reorganized its philanthropic arm, the FSMB Foundation, the assets of the Foundation have steadily grown — increasing the potential for larger and more impactful annual grantmaking.

The Foundation has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants since its relaunch, gradually increasing the size and breadth of its distributions. In 2024, the Foundation reached a milestone when it surpassed $1 million in grant distributions over the last 20 years. In 2024 alone, the grant-allocation pool reached nearly $400,000, with individual awards up to $50,000 available.

A wide variety of health-care organizations continue to benefit from the Foundation’s endowment, including the medical regulatory community directly: Funding has been provided for more than 30 different state medical and osteopathic boards to date.

Increases in Foundation Funding Pool Pave the Way for Larger Individual Awards

Average Award Size

The Foundation significantly increased the size of its individual grants in 2024, with a range of awardees receiving grants of up to $50,000 each.

Annual FSMB Foundation Fundraiser: 2024 Charlie Cook Event Sets Attendance Records

The FSMB Foundation has held 12 annual fundraising events — both live and online — since their inception in 2013, featuring presentations by prominent authors, researchers and policy leaders. Our Foundation Luncheon fundraiser in 2024, held during the FSMB’s Annual Meeting in Nashville, featured guest speaker Charlie Cook, considered one of the nation’s leading authorities on U.S. elections and political trends.

Founder of the the independent, non-partisan Cook Political Report, Mr. Cook has served as a consultant or analyst for CBS, CNN and NBC News, appearing on Meet The Press at least 16 times and on NBC’s Election Night Decision Desk. He is the recipient of the American Political Science Association’s prestigious Carey McWilliams Award for “making a major contribution to our understanding of politics.”

In an election year fraught with issues of importance to the U.S. health care system, Mr. Cook provided valuable insights on the current political climate and the Presidential election for medical regulators.

The 2024 Foundation Luncheon drew the highest level of attendance in the event’s history, with 208 FSMB Annual Meeting participants attending. The 2025 Foundation Luncheon will be held during the FSMB’s Annual Meeting, April 24-26 in Seattle, Washington.
